The first thing you’ll want to do is take a nice long walk around the city. The architecture is immense in its scale and you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Regency era had never left the town which is quite true. There are lots of lovely arcades and boutique shops to peruse, such as those in Green Park Station, and there is bound to be something that you’ll not find anywhere else. One of the best examples of the Regency style is the Palladian bridge of Pulteney that was built in 1774. It’s like something out of a fairy tale when the Bridge is light up and you can hear the sound of the weir flowing underneath. Take a wander along the terrace next to it it’s hard to imagine a more romantic setting. If that’s not enough then the walk or bus ride out for town to Prior Park will give you the chance to see a Lancelot Capability Brown masterpiece of a landscape park with a true Palladian bridge, only one of four left in the world.

Bath is a city for two reasons it has a University and the beautiful Bath Abbey. It’s over one thousand years old but the look of it now is more of a gothic palace, totally in keeping with the Regency style of the city itself. There is still a bit of the Elizabethan about the place though especially if you frequent Sally Lunns tea rooms which goes back to 1482. The famous Sally Lunn bun comes from here, but you need to compare them to the next place on the list the bath Tea rooms where you can sample a Bath Bun (a posher version) and take some of the waters that Bath is famous for. It’s supposed to perk you up and be extremely good for you.

The one thing that you have to do in Bath is go to the famous Roman Bath house. Although it seems that people have been coming to the city to bath in its restorative waters since Neolithic times the Romans really set the place up with their grand bathhouse at Aquae Sulis. You can’t bath in the original but there is a purpose-built spa on the roof that gives amazing view of the City whilst you float calmly in the soothing waters.
